High Peak charity faces funds battle
A charity that provides a vital service for High Peak young people facing homelessness is battling to raise funds to enable it to continue. National Lottery funding that supported the work of High Peak Nightstop has come to an end and trying to secure alternative funding is proving difficult in the current economic climate.

Cath Sterndale, Deputy Co-ordinator at High Peak Nightstop said: "We are fighting for survival at a time when the service should really be expanded rather than lost."

They have been able to secure funds from the PCT, Lloyds TSB and their own volunteer fundraising team but they are still a long way short of what they need to continue their work in the long term. To help raise funds a Silent Auction is being held at the United Reformed Church Hall, Hardwick Square East, in Buxton on Thursday, September 2. Bidding begins at 7pm and closes at 8.15pm. Among the lots up for the grabs are various meals out and even a week's stay at a holiday cottage near Whitby.

High Peak Nightstop provides emergency accommodation and advice, food and toiletry parcels and tenancy support to young people aged 16-25 in the High Peak who are homeless or facing homelessness.

They also offer help with travel to interviews, applying for tenancies and offer benefit advice. For more information contact Sarah Gabriel or Kath Sterndale on 01298 74788 or hpnightstop@btconnect.com
