New Forest Nightstop provides emergency overnight accommodation for homeless 16 - 24 year olds in the homes of trained and approved host households around the New Forest.

A young person visits a local agency and if the young person is suitable, the agency will make a referral to Nightstop. Young people cannot self-refer to Nightstop.

Nightstop is free to young people and host households receive expenses. If suitable, a young person is able to stay 1 - 5 nights in a Nightstop household while receiving further advice from their housing advice worker who will discuss their options with them and put their case forward to the New Forest District Council Supported Housing Panel.

On occasion volunteer drivers are available to collect the young person from the referring agency and get them to the host's home. Nightstop also has Support Volunteers available who can meet up with the young person and provide practical support and advice with regards to their housing and financial situation.

Nightstop is not a permanent solution to youth homelessness, but it gives a young person a breathing space to consider their situation.

To refer a young person visits a local agency and if the young person is suitable, the agency will make a referral to Nightstop. Young people cannot self-refer to Nightstop. The young person must be able to show proof of identity or give the name of a referee.

The agency will go through a standard checklist with the young person to establish their suitability before contacting the staff at Nightstop. Anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol or acting in a violent or anti-social manner will not be accepted for Nightstop.
